World CLASS at Yale!

DEADLINE EXTENDED to Tuesday, 10/6 at NOON! The World CLASS after school program at Yale is currently accepting registrations, with a deadline of September 25th. This program introduces students to less commonly taught world languages and includes cultural components. Due to the pandemic, it will run virtually this year. Languages offered are Arabic, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, and Urdu. As these are very basic introductions meant for students who are not already studying the language, students should NOT register for a language they already take at school, such as Arabic. If you are a Native Speaker of one of the languages being offered, you are encouraged to contact the Instructor about volunteering as a Teacher Assistant. According to their website, the program is for “students who are motivated, self starters, and ready to learn. Each student applying is required to submit one reference from a teacher who can speak to their interest in language, and their work ethic. In order to stay in the program, students are required to maintain their attendance and participation.” Since New Haven awards a quarter credit with a grade of Pass to all students completing the program, your attendance and participation will be monitored by the district. Students from NHPS will receive a scholarship for the $500 cost, so please take the Registration process seriously. More information and the registration link can be found here.
