Did you know that qualified New Haven Public School students (local and regional) can take college courses tuition-free? Your ISSP Coordinator will help you determine if a college course is right for you. He or she will also help you select the right school and course and will support you throughout your time in the college classroom.

ISSP College Before College Student Eligibility

**Information below is subject to change by NHPS or the University partner. Please verify with your ISSP Coordinator.**

New Haven Public Program Requirements:

  • Interview with and approval of ISSP Coordinator.

  • B cumulative unweighted GPA or 3.0/on pace in mastery-based schools.
  • Any student with a D or F on the most recent report card cannot apply to take a college course the next semester. For example, if a student is interested for spring, but  has  a  D or F on marking period one report card, he or she is ineligible to apply regardless of cumulative GPA.
  • Demonstrated evidence of independent learning behaviors.
  • Accepted students must attend mandatory orientations and/or registrations for each college.

 

Gateway Community College Requirements (every semester for following term)

  • Must be a high school Junior or Senior. Apply in Spring of 10th grade for fall of 11th.
  • Paper Application with parent signature, transcript, and ISSP Recommendation.
  • Historical Transcript & Current Grade review by ISSP and GCC. B minimum.
  • Accuplacer placement testing, may be waived for high SAT/ACT scores, not PSAT.

 

Southern CT State University Requirements (every semester for following term)

  • Must be a high school Junior or Senior. Apply in Spring of 10th grade for fall of 11th.
  • Paper Application, transcript, scores, and ISSP Recommendation.
  • Historical Transcript & Current Grade review by ISSP and SCSU. B+ minimum.
  • 500 minimum in English and Math on SAT or PSAT, or ACT equivalent

 

Yale University (every semester for following term)

  • Must be a high school Junior or Senior. Apply in Spring of 10th grade for fall of 11th.
  • Paper Application, transcript, scores, and ISSP Recommendation.
  • A- 3.75 cumulative unweighted GPA, reviewed by ISSP Coordinator.
  • 600 minimum in English or Math on SAT or PSAT.
  • Students MUST earn a course grade of B- or higher in order to continue at Yale.
